MBFW Day 2 || ZIMMERMANN

Zimmermann is always one of everyone’s favourite shows on the fashion week schedule and they definitely did not disappoint this year. Their vision for the collection was uber femme with pastel perfect florals along with washed out tropical blooms and digital petal prints which got a shot of cool with laser cutting and perforated tectures. Punctured sleeves were net like and skirts were a play in print and texture. The silhouettes and features were slightly oriental with high necklines and kimono wrap tops. Overall I think Zimmermann definitely had something to offer their “resort loving” clientele and the audience as they have incorporated a technological innovation, being laser cutting (which i just learnt about it in an assignment, kind of exciting!!) which make their designs completely unique from other designers.

MBFW Day 1 || GINGER AND SMART

Ginger and Smart celebrated their tenth anniversary with a pop, a pop of colour! The duo sent neon hues, punchy digitalised prints, silver foil embellished brocades and high shine metallics down the runway, with a spotlight-stealing colour palette of white, neon pink, lime green and nudes. This is such a different direction for Ginger and Smart with their colours and fabrications, it almost reminds me of sorbet!

MBFW Day 1 || KSUBI

The Ksubi boys brought their signature mix of street, surf, skate and sport together for their SS12/13 collection which was styled by Christine Centenera who brought her effortless street style cool to each look. The collection gave a nod to lots of layering and double denim, but hey who can do double denim better than ksubi? There was a bit of an old school sportswear vibe with the hooded parkas and spray jackets but I'm particularly loving the denim and the black leather.

MBFW Day 1 || AURELIO COSTARELLA

With his trademark beading and embroidery along with feathers and pom-pom headdresses, Aurelio Costarella's SS12/13 collection spoke 1920's but maintained his luxe, layered style. His colour palette was sorbet like and one of the biggest highlights was the handmade headdresses! How amazing are they!

MBFW Day 1 || MANNING CARTELL

Manning Cartell's "Absent Portrait" SS12/13 collection was ultimately inspired by artist Frida Kahlo and her fondness for colour and layering. There was plenty of clashing prints and textures, lots of floral and appliquéd rosettes, and a certain sporty luxe vibe in the collection. The key colours featured neon pink, white, emerald green, navy and grey, but floral was indeed the stand out. I think this collection definitely has an effect of movement and lightness within it which makes it quite beautiful and even though I have my favourite picks I think it was a stand out for day 1!
